The Schwartz Rounds provide a unique and dedicated space for healthcare professionals to openly share and reflect on the emotional aspects of their work. This platform allows them to discuss both the challenges and the joys they encounter daily, with an emphasis on fostering empathy and genuine human connection rather than focusing on clinical problem-solving.

Jackson Memorial Hospital and Holtz Children’s Hospital held the first Schwartz Rounds, which drew approximately 150 participants to discuss "A Patient I'll Never Forget." Panelists—Dr. Lamere Buchanan, Angelica Jean Pierre, RN, and Carlos Gonzalez, RRT—shared powerful stories that inspired meaningful interaction among attendees.

The event was in conjunction with the Miller School of Medicine Institute of Bioethics and Health Policy.

According to the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare, "The Schwartz Rounds® program, now taking place in hundreds of organizational members in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Ireland, Australia and New Zealand offers healthcare providers a regularly scheduled time during their fast-paced work lives to openly and honestly discuss the social and emotional issues they face in caring for patients and families."
