  • The Medical Ethics Interest Group is the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s only student organization dedicated to encouraging medical student involvement in medical ethics. In doing so, we aim to foster students’ personal and professional growth while encouraging development of research and policy that promotes ethical values while attending to the nuances and dynamisms of medicine.
  • At the convergence of objectivity and subjectivity, medical ethics represents many things: science, human rights, critical introspection, and creative innovation. Due to this interdisciplinary nature, participation in medical ethics can be truly transformative and provide students an avenue for empathy-fueled personal and professional growth. In the official hospital ethics committees, students must confront ethical challenges in the exact setting in which they will be training. In student-led discussions, similarly, students are encouraged to explore interesting historical cases, current events, works of literature or art, or other media to foster critical thought and provide diverse perspectives on controversial issues. Through research and policy development, students are encouraged to produce research or policy that channels this inner growth into something concrete that can reshape the ethical climate in which we work and learn.
